Most SEO advice is tactical. Follow the checklist, hit publish, hope the algorithm notices. I've spent 15 years arguing that this is the wrong frame entirely.
SEO is a product problem. The companies that figured this out built organic channels that drove hundreds of millions in revenue, not because they optimized harder, but because they built products that search engines had no choice but to rank.
I wrote Product-Led SEO to make that argument at book length. It became a category. Now CMOs and growth leaders read it before they hire me.
My consulting work is strategic and narrow. I work with a small number of companies at a time, usually at the point where leadership knows SEO should be working better but can't diagnose why. Clients have included Anthropic, LinkedIn, Coinbase, Tinder, Faire, Gusto, AllTrails, Handshake, and others.
Before going independent, I ran global SEO at SurveyMonkey for seven years — from Head of SEO through Director of Growth — and watched organic become one of the company's most durable revenue channels.
I also write a newsletter at productledseo.com, speak at events including Google, Y Combinator, Stanford, and Duke, and I'm an investor in several AI and search infrastructure companies.
